Your Small Town Summer Bucket List

It’s that time of year again – everyone is

anticipating summer vacation and making big

plans! We are gearing up for warmer weather, planning internships, and probably a wedding or two. From the mundane moments of a summer job to the thrilling adventures that come with trips here are 15 things you can do to have the best summer ever!

#1 Breakfast on the Porch

I don’t know about you, but my perfect day in the life (in my head of course, because I can never actually manage this) starts with a big breakfast on my porch overlooking the ranch. I can feel the crisp morning air, the tranquility of nature, and see the colorful bowl of fruit in front of me while I’m sipping my coffee. These seemingly small moments can make all the difference. Romanticize the little things in life like a morning breakfast. Take those 30 minutes of quiet time for yourself before you get into the hustle and

bustle of a summer internship.

#2 Attend an Outdoor Movie

Whether it’s at the drive-in theatre or a movie in the park, it’s not summer until you’ve seen an outdoor film screening! Drive in theatres are few and far between these days. If you can come by one, you must take the opportunity! Childhood memories of piling into the family truck for a drive-in adventure still bring a smile to my face. Not only is it just fun to be outside watching a movie on a huge screen, but if you don’t enjoy the movie, you can talk right through it and there is no one to shush you!

Movies in the park seem to have become a more popular trend within the past few years. But if you can’t find one, plan one! Find a projector and make your own little movie theatre in your backyard. Don’t forget the popcorn and enjoy a movie under the stars with loved ones.

#3 Go to the Farmer’s Market

There is no better way to start your Saturday than by going to the Farmer’s Market! A leisurely stroll through the stalls, picking up farm fresh goodies is the best way to spend a weekend. From locally grown produce to homemade baked goods, every purchase supports producers. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to connect with neighbors! I personally always reach for the homemade bread and ingredients for a hearty salad.

#4 Join a Wellness League

Whether you are an athletic girly or not, joining a wellness league is the perfect way to break a sweat and make some new friends! From softball games to kickball tournaments, to ladies’ golf night … there are so many different activities to stay active. Not finding any of these activities appealing? Start your own Hot Girls Walk Club! Gather some gals each week to take a stroll around town. And maybe take a stroll for some cocktails after!

#5 Attend the County Fair

Step right up and experience the fun of a county fair! There is nothing, I mean nothing, more wholesome than a county fair. There is something for everyone at this beloved summer tradition. Not only is it important support the community, but many of the projects are honestly very impressive.

#6 Host a Backyard Dinner Party

Elevate your summer socials with a backyard dinner party that’s sure to impress. Gather friends and host an evening with delicious food and good company right in your own backyard! Set the scene with some twinkling lights, fire up the grill, and let the laughter flow. Don’t want to cook? No problem, make it a potluck! Fresh flowers are the perfect touch.

#7 Visit Your Local Museum

I feel like every small town has that one museum that you visited on fieldtrips… like every year. But you’re older now, so take a trip to rediscover the hidden gems of your hometown. Get back in there and explore the fascinating exhibits. I bet you’ll learn something new! If not, it will give you a chance to appreciate the rich history and culture of your community. Plus, it’s a great way to beat the heat on those scorching summer days.

#8 Check Out a Book from the Public Library

I don’t know about you, but I always forget about the Public Library. Public Libraries are full of great books (obviously) and usually some fun summer programs. Summer is the perfect time to indulge in some leisurely reading by the pool or in a hammock. A good read is the perfect accessory on lazy summer afternoons. Additionally, Public Libraries tend to have a lot going on as well! Who knows, maybe you’ll join a new book club, or an upcoming lecture may capture your curiosity.

#9 Go to a Community Concert

From local bands to cover artists, summer is the great time for some live music! Whether you’re going to pack a picnic and listen to music in the park or sit on an outdoor patio with a nice drink in your hand, live music is a great way to spend a summer evening. So gather your friends and head to the local venue for an event that is guaranteed to hit all the right notes.

#10 Visit a Local Art Gallery

Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of local art by visiting a nearby art gallery. From paintings and sculptures to photography, there’s bound to be something that speaks to your soul. Take your time, explore the exhibits, and appreciate the talent of your community’s artists. A visit to the local art gallery is sure to leave you feeling inspired and uplifted.

#11 Embrace Nature

Take advantage of the great outdoors this summer and embrace nature! There are plenty of outdoor activities to fill your summer schedule. Hiking, fishing, picnicking, or even simply lounging by a pond are great ways to get outside and soak up some sun. Reconnecting with nature is the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. Take a moment, breathe the fresh air, and embrace the beauty of the outdoors.

#12 Go to an Antique Store

Step back in time and uncover hidden treasure at a local antique store. You never know what gems you might stumble upon! Antique stores house retros vibes and nostalgic charm. Browsing the different booths is sure to take you on a journey through time

#13 Go to a Perfect Location and Watch the Sunset

There is something magical about watching a sunset and it never gets old. Find the perfect spot – a beach, hilltop, or even your own backyard, and take a moment to appreciate God’s masterpiece.

#14 Attend Your Local Festival

Almost every town has a local festival at some point in the year and many of them fall during the summer! Celebrate your community’s vibrant culture and check out the exciting things your community has to offer. Connect with your neighbors and indulge in some delicious food. Who knows, you make some new friends while you’re at it!

#15 Volunteer at a Community Event

Give back to your community and make a difference by volunteering at a local event. The summer is usually jam packed with fundraisers, cleanups, and other community events. Get involved and take pride in being part of something greater than yourself. Be someone who fosters a sense of community in your small town.

As summer unfolds, seize every moment and make this summer unforgettable. Whether you’re sipping coffee on the porch at breakfast time or watching the sun sink over the horizon, savor the simple pleasures, and make the most of these carefree days. Host an outdoor movie night, visit a local art gallery, and start that Hot Girl Walk Club. There’s no short of experiences to enrich our lives and create lasting memories, even in a small town.

So, here’s to a summer filled with endless possibilities! Embrace the beauty of our small towns and vibrant communities that surround us. Cherish the moments both big and small and make this season oh so special. Here’s to the best summer ever!
